In this introductory course we will uncover some basic food mysteries while having fun along the way.You will investigate tourism opportunities found right in you own backyard using the eight sectors of tourism. For instance, did you know that you can zip line and rappel at the Elora Gorge?
In the kitchen, you will learn what it takes to keep both the food and yourselves safe from harm. Measurement techniques will be practiced continually and you will see first hand what a difference accurately measuring your ingredients will make to your finished product.
Most Importantly, you will become part of a working team ready and able to solve a variety of challenges put to you in a commercial kitchen environment. Your team is counting on you to do your part. The question is.... Are you up to the challenge?
IMPORTANT: Attendance and participation are critical for success in this course as most learning takes place during daily project based tasks.
Did you know that ketchup was sold as medicine in the 1830's or that rice is a staple food for over half of the world's population?
Have you ever wondered what makes a cake rise (or sometimes fall)?
