Soft Pretzels
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup warm water
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp yeast
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups flour
Directions:
Combine warm water, sugar and yeast in a bowl. Stir well and allow the yeast to activate (you will see some scum rise to the surface).
In a separate bowl combine the flour and salt. Add to the liquid mixture and stir until a soft ball of dough forms. Knead the dough until it forms a smooth round ball. If necessary, add small amounts of flour to form a dough ball that is no longer sticky.
Cut the ball into eight pieces.
Roll each piece into a rope approximately 15-20 cm in length. Tie into the traditional pretzel shape. Baste with egg wash. Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown.
